What is

The Wednesday Word?

The Wednesday Word Midweek Mission — for schools and parishes — is an established, weekly, prayerful encounter supporting Jesus’ Great Commission to the Church:

“Go into all the world and proclaim the Good News.” — Mark 16:15
Wednesday Word leaflets

The prayerful purpose of The Wednesday Word leaflet series is to share the Sunday Gospel — inviting everyone to a life-giving, midweek encounter with Christ and to Sunday Mass — in support of the mission of the Catholic Church and to strengthen the home–school–parish partnership.

The Wednesday Word is a weekly gift, shared through two beautifully produced leaflets: one for schools and families, and another for parishes — freely available to print and hand out or share online.
Rooted in the Sunday Gospel, each high-impact leaflet supports evangelisation — seeking to open hearts to God’s Word, strengthen faith and bring the hope, love and Good News of Christ into everyday life.

Within the Catholic Church, each Wednesday is dedicated to St Joseph, the Patron Saint of Families. The Wednesday Word is also dedicated to St Joseph.

“The Wednesday Word can help to put the Word of God into the home of every Catholic school child. The materials produced are already used extensively throughout the dioceses in England and Wales - bringing remarkable graces to many. I offer my prayers and encouragement not only to those who provide The Wednesday Word but also to those who use it.”

about
“Our families and children love receiving the Wednesday Word. Our pupils across school use it every week to plan their child led prayers and whole school Sunday Gospel assemblies, on the theme/word of the week, on the following Monday and they find it really easy to follow. It is such a valuable resource”
“We love the Wednesday Word! We use it in school for a variety of purposes. Children are given a challenge to demonstrate the meaning of the word, such as showing peace, love, etc. It works extremely well for us and we are so grateful for this resource. We are delighted that you are able to share it with us online.”
“We are both non-Catholics. The Wednesday Word was enjoyable. It got us to sit down together as a family and the children enjoyed it. It seems to clearly be a way to form an excellent link between the church and school. I think The Wednesday Word would help people to focus more on each other, value other people more and would help keep families closer together. Anything that can do this should be shared with other people.”
“We liked The Wednesday Word because it brought our family closer together and gave us an opportunity to discuss and hear each other’s opinions about the Gospel. Even though we go to church this actually made God real to us in our real life outside church. It was easy to do because it was all set out for us. We both thought it was a good way for the church to input the Gospel into lots of families and also give us good advice. The children saw that we were interested in their answers and opinions. It was good quality time together, which I think would help most Catholic families. It also got us to stop and think about God in the week, which can be...
